Walnut Cabinet
During my semester at the Vermont Woodworking school, I focused on joinery and carcass construction. We concluded the semester by designing, computer-modeling, and building wall-hung cabinets. This cabinet was created with a walnut inner case and a butternut outer case. It features a tambour door that opens to reveal three drawers each with magnetic stops. A fourth and largest drawer is located under the tambour door. The four drawers are constructed with hand-cut dovetails and feature ipe drawer bottoms. The outer cabinet case has waterfall-matched sides and is secured to the bottom with a laminated and hand-carved cross-member. Both the inner and outer cases are constructed using finger-jointed spline miters (using finger-jointed splines that are glued at the desired angle and fit into mortises cut parallel to the board instead of perpendicular to the face of the miter).
