Body Print Daybed
This piece was developed as part of a thesis exploration into physical interaction and material memory. At its surface, the Daybed presents as a minimal, industrially influenced piece of functional furniture, constructed from square and round steel tubing with a thick upholstered foam cushion. Hidden beneath the cushion lies a secondary layer of foam, saturated with black ink and functioning as an ink pad.
The Daybed is designed to record the user's presence. By placing a piece of canvas between the ink-loaded foam and the cushion, users create a print through touch, pressure, and weight. The resulting image captures a ghostly, abstract impression of the interaction, revealing traces of the human form without overt representation. This project emphasizes the value of function, while simultaneously expanding the role of furniture into that of a quiet collaborator in the act of mark-making.
